HUG Committee 2024
Chair:Julian Dawson We have been using Heritage at Arup since 2002, and are constantly impressed how we can adapt Heritage to our specific requirements in an engineering and design consultancy. I am a senior librarian in the Arup University which serves a global firm of 13,000 people. Outside work I am a wine drinking cricket viewing bird watcher. I have been HUG chairman for over ten years now! |

Membership Secretary:Amanda Hartley-Newton I am the Learning Resource Centre Co-ordinator for Shrewsbury Colleges Group, working with a team of 6 across the two former Sixth Form College sites by Shrewsbury’s two bridges across the Severn, aptly named English and Welsh Bridge campuses. I have worked there since 2014, and I am the administrator for our hosted Heritage Cirqa system. I am a new member of the committee. As Membership Secretary, I maintain the list of members and send the invitations to the bi-annual HUG meetings. I am a keen walker and spend much of my spare time walking with Shrewsbury Ramblers and managing the publicity, including social media, for both Ramblers and the Shropshire Way Association. My perfect day would be walking with family or friends followed by a glass of local ale in a pub! My other interests include running, wine and reading, but not all at the same time. |

Committee Member:Kathryn Aveyard Kat began working in the Library at Norland in 2018, becoming the Library manager at the very end of 2021. Her role involves working closely with the Student Support staff within the Student Services team in assisting students to access a wide range of information and research materials. She has a background in working in both Early Years and Library services. Kat has taught Drama and Singing sessions for pre-schoolers in a national network of weekend Performing arts Schools. After graduating in BA (Hons) Drama, Theatre and Media Kat decided to extend her professional development by completing a Childcare Learning and Development qualification whilst working in a Sure Start Children’s Centre. Kat has worked as a Senior Nursery Nurse as well as in a Family Support team, running parenting groups and 1:1 outreach sessions as a Family Support worker. Kat has worked for seven years in BANES Public library service, originally specialising in the Music and Drama loans. Alongside her Senior Library Assistant role Kat ran a children’s book group, facilitated story times and led a popular series of Baby Bounce and Rhyme sessions. Kat currently facilitates Norland Baby Book Club, a monthly community book themed play sessions for children aged 0-5 years old. While at Norland Kat has worked in a variety of roles including supporting the Placement team as a temporary Placement Officer and has delivered masterclasses as an Early Years Assistant Lecturer. Kat appreciates the unique opportunity her current position at Norland provides, combining her experience of working within both the early years and library sectors. Kat is excited to be a part of the HUG committee and looks forward to working closer with other information professionals across the HUG network. |

Schools:Margo Veitch I am the schools representative on the Heritage User Group Committee. I have an IT background having worked in the Computer Science Department at Glasgow University before going to work first for English Electric in the Support Department and then for ICL as a System Validator. After some time out to raise a family I started helping out in the library of a local school. I have been involved with the Heritage Library System since it was known as Bookshelf. Currently, I am the co-ordinator for the Cheshire Schools Group. This is a group of about fifty two schools throughout Cheshire, Warrington and Halton. Within the group I help to install and upgrade Heritage Systems and train the staff on the use of these systems. I also liaise between IS Oxford and the schools within the group when they have problems. |
